New Year's Eve Party Ideas: Disco Ball Decor, Drinks and Easy Bites

A disco theme is the easiest way to make New Year's Eve at home feel like a real night out. Mirror balls catch every bit of light, everything sparkles, and you barely need any other decor. Here is how to put together a disco New Year's party with drinks, food and a little glam, without spending the whole day in the kitchen.

1. Go Big on Disco Balls

Disco balls do all the decorating for you. Cluster them in different sizes down the middle of the table, pile them on a bar cart, or set a few on the floor around the room. Gold feels warm and New Year's Eve, silver feels classic, and a mix of both looks great in photos. Put a candle or string lights nearby and they throw sparkles across the whole room.

2. Serve Drinks in Disco Ball Cups

Disco ball tumblers are the detail everyone talks about. Fill them with a signature cocktail or mocktail and they double as a favor guests can take home. They are also much easier to hold than a glass when people are dancing.

For the midnight toast, set out a tray of clear coupe glasses ready to go before the countdown. They look like real glassware, there is no risk of broken glass on the dance floor, and cleanup is quick.

3. Keep the Food Easy and Grab and Go

On New Year's Eve, nobody wants to sit down for a meal. They want bites they can eat with one hand while holding a drink. Shrimp cocktail in individual cups is a classic that always feels a little fancy. Add a pipette of cocktail sauce to each cup and they are ready to grab.

Charcuterie domes are another crowd favorite. Each guest gets her own little board of meat, cheese and fruit under a clear lid, so you can make them earlier in the evening and they still look fresh at eleven o'clock.

Gold toothpicks make even simple bites like caprese, olives or cheese cubes look festive. Stick them in everything.

4. A Dessert Table That Matches

Parfait cups are perfect for a party where people are on their feet. Layer cake, berries and whipped cream or pudding and line them up on a tray. They can be made in the afternoon and kept in the fridge until it is time to serve.

5. Plan a New Year's Day Brunch

If friends are staying over, a mimosa bar on New Year's Day is the perfect way to keep the party going. Set out champagne, a few juices and fresh fruit, and let everyone build their own.

How Much to Buy for 20 Guests

Plan on one cluster of disco balls for each table plus a few extras for the bar, 20 disco ball cups, 20 to 25 champagne glasses so nobody runs out at midnight, 30 to 40 food cups since guests graze for hours, and 20 dessert cups.

When to Order
