Friendsgiving Appetizer Ideas That Are Easy to Make and Serve

Friendsgiving is a potluck at heart, but whoever hosts usually ends up handling the appetizers. The trick is picking bites you can make ahead and serve in individual portions, so you are not stuck in the kitchen while everyone else is having fun. These are our favorite Friendsgiving appetizer ideas, all built around things you can prep the night before.

1. Mini Soup Mugs

Butternut squash soup or creamy tomato soup in mini mugs is the coziest way to start the meal. Keep the soup warm in a slow cooker, pour it into mini mugs as guests arrive, and add a tiny wooden spoon. Top with a swirl of cream and a few pumpkin seeds and they look like they came from a restaurant.

2. Soup Shooters

If you want something even easier to pass around, serve soup in clear shooter cups. Pair them with a mini grilled cheese on a pick laid across the top and you have the appetizer everyone will ask about.

3. Charcuterie Cones

A big board gets messy fast when twenty people are grazing. Charcuterie cones solve that. Fill kraft cones with salami, cheese, grapes, crackers and a few dried apricots for a fall touch. Line them up on a tray and they take up almost no space on a crowded Friendsgiving table.

4. Individual Salad Cups

A fall salad with apples, pecans, dried cranberries and goat cheese is perfect in individual cups. Fill a pipette with dressing and stick it in each cup so the greens stay crisp until someone is ready to eat.

5. Bamboo Appetizer Cups

Bamboo cups bring a natural, rustic look that fits right in with a fall table. Use them for caprese skewers, roasted veggies, or a little bite of turkey, cranberry and brie.

6. Mini Cakes for Dessert

Instead of three pies that half get eaten, make mini layer cakes. Pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting, wrapped in a clear band with a ribbon, looks beautiful on the table and goes home easily.

7. Send Leftovers Home in Style

Everyone loves Friendsgiving leftovers. Instead of foil and mismatched containers, set out wooden food boxes at the end of the night so guests can pack a little of everything to take home. It is a small detail that makes your party feel extra thoughtful.

How Much to Make

When appetizers come before a full dinner, plan on two or three appetizer cups per guest. For 15 friends, that is about 15 soup cups, 15 charcuterie cones and 15 salad or bamboo cups. Make the cones and salad cups the morning of, and keep everything in the fridge until guests arrive.

When to Order

Friendsgiving usually lands the weekend before Thanksgiving, so order by early November to give yourself time. Everything in this post is in our shop, and if you have questions, send us a message.
